Ingredients

For the Tuna + Marinade
  • 1 pound fresh ahi tuna steaks
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/2 Jalapeno pepper or serrano pepper, seeded and minced
  • 1/3 cup raw sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Slaw
  • 3 cups green cabbage thinly sliced
  • 1 cup radishes finely chopped, greens removed
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves chopped
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup red onion diced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • pepper to taste

Instructions

For the Tuna + Marinade
    Cup of Yum
  1. Place the tuna in a shallow dish. Whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and pepper and pour over top. Add a little water if necessary to fully submerge the fish. Cover and refigerate for at least 30 minutues or up to 2 hours.
  2. Pour the sesame seeds onto a plate. Remove the tuna from the marinade and roll in the seeds to coat.
  3. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat and sear the tuna to your desired doneness. We prefer 2 to 3 minutes per side so it's still mostly pink in the middle. When almost done, pour a couple spoonfuls of the marinade over top of the tuna and cook for a minute more.
  4. Slice the tuna thin and serve with warm corn tortillas and the slaw (recipe below).
For the Slaw
  1. In a large bowl, toss together the cabbage, radishes, cilantro, sour cream, red onion, lime juice, salt, and pepper until well combined.
