Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter or your favorite neutral flavored fat
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour or 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 cups turkey broth or pan drippings
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt 1/4 cup butter over medium-high heat until just melted.
  2. Whisk in 1/4 cup all-purpose flour until well combined and no dry spots remain, cooking for about 2 minutes until slightly bubbly and lightly golden.
  3. Slowly pour in 4 cups turkey broth (or strained pan drippings from roasting a turkey), whisking constantly to combine.
  4. Stir in 1 teaspoon minced fresh thyme, 1 teaspoon minced fresh parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to incorporate.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, whisking constantly, and cook until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency, about 2–3 minutes. Serve hot in a gravy boat.
