Ingredients

  • 80 ml cranberry juice or as needed
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (cornflour)
  • few drops vanilla extract (optional)
  • 250 g (1 cup) light corn syrup or liquid glucose
  • Gel food coloring

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Mix the cornflour with the cranberry juice in a small pan, stirring well to dissolve. Add the vanilla extract and glucose syrup and stir to combine.
  2. Heat gently over a low heat, stirring, until the mixture starts to thicken. Do not boil. If the fake blood becomes too thick you can thin it with more water or juice – remember it will thicken as it cools.
  3. Take the pan off the heat and stir in the red food coloring until you have the desired color. You can add a few drops of blue or violet food coloring for a darker color.
  4. Transfer to a jar and keep in the fridge for up to three weeks. You may need to stir in some additional cranberry juice or water and heat gently to bring to liquid consistency after chilling.
