Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 (15 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 Tablespoons hot sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup green olives

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a skillet, heat the oil and ground meat over medium heat. Cook the meat, while breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until the meat is cooked through and no longer pink - about 10 minutes.
  2. Once the beef is browned, add the crushed tomatoes, hot sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, oregano, cumin, cinnamon, salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  3. Stir to combine, then simmer for an additional 10 minutes before serving.
  4. While the picadillo simmers, use a cutting board and knife to finely chop the olives, then either stir them into the finished picadillo or serve them on the side so guests can top their own bowls.

Notes

  • Hint: If desired, garnish your Filipino Picadillo with chopped fresh cilantro.
