Furikake Fries

These Japanese-inspired Furikake Fries feature thin, crispy shoestring fries sprinkled with furikake seaweed seasoning. They're full of delicious, savoury umami flavour and are super easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb frozen shoestring fries
  • 1-2 teaspoon Japanese furikake seasoning or to your taste *see note below
  • 1 teaspoon Japanese togarashi seasoning optional

Instructions

Bake:
    Cup of Yum
  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F/177°C.
  3. Place the fries on the baking sheet in a single layer and bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes at 350°F/177°C.
OR Deep fry:
  1. Deep fry the shoestring fries in peanut or canola oil until golden brown, or according to the package directions.
Season:
  1. Place the crispy fries into a serving dish and sprinkle the furikake seasoning on top.
  2. Toss the fries with the furikake seasoning until evenly coated.
  3. Dust with togarashi powder if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • If using store-bought furikake seasoning, start with 1-2 teaspoon of seasoning as those can taste saltier than homemade furikake seasoning. 
  • If using homemade furikake seasoning, you can use a little more, depending on your taste.
