Garlic Herb Beer Bread
Garlic Herb Beer Bread is a dense, moist loaf flavored with dried parsley, oregano, and minced garlic. The use of beer provides leavening and a subtle malt flavor, while honey adds a mild sweetness. Melted butter both incorporated in the batter and brushed atop the loaf enhances the moist texture and golden crust. This bread pairs well with savory meals and offers a simple way to add herbs and garlic flavor.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp parsley dried
- 1 tsp oregano dried
- 1 (12 ounce) beer
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 4 tbsp butter melted (separated)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375. Spray a loaf pan with non stick baking spray and set aside.
- In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, salt, dried herbs, minced garlic and honey.
- Add in 2 tablespoons of the melted butter. Stir to combine.
- Pour in the beer, stir until combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan. Smooth out the top and brush the remaining melted butter on top.
- Bake for 55-60 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Notes
- You can substitute all-purpose flour with self-rising flour by leaving out the baking powder.
- Consider white wheat or gluten-free flour for variations, but verify gluten in your beer choice.
- Brushing melted butter on top before baking creates a rich, golden crust.
- Fresh herbs can replace dried herbs at a ratio of 3:1 for a brighter flavor.
- Use a light beer to prevent any bitter flavors; most alcohol will bake off during cooking.
