Garlic Parmesan Chicken

Buttery, baked chicken with a garlic butter sauce. This garlic butter parmesan chicken has been a family favorite for years, and is one of the first recipes we shared on Tastes of Lizzy T.

Ingredients

  • 6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (for melting in the pan)
For the Parmesan Breading:
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Milk Dip:
  • 1/4 cup 2% milk
For the Butter Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (melted)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • paprika

Instructions

Flatten Chicken:

  1. The chicken breasts we used were large (3 chicken breasts = 2 1/3 pounds). If the chicken breasts you are using are also large cut them in half to get 6 pieces.
  2. Place the chicken breasts in a zippered bag. Use the side of a meat tenderizer to pound the chicken breasts to 1/2" thickness throughout so they cook evenly. 6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
Bread the Chicken:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Place 1/4 cup butter in a 9x13" baking dish and place it in the oven for the butter to melt while the oven heats. 1/4 cup salted butter
  2. In a bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, cheese, parsley, salt and pepper. Place milk in another shallow bowl. 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese 2 teaspoons dried parsley 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, 1/4 cup 2% milk
  3. Dip chicken in milk, then roll it in the crumb mixture. Place chicken in the baking dish with the melted butter. 
  4. In a small bowl, combine the butter, garlic and lemon juice. Then drizzle over the chicken, then sprinkle on the paprika. 1/4 cup salted butter, 2 cloves garlic, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, Paprika
  5. Cover the pan loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover the pan, turn the chicken and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes. The baking time will depend on the thickness of the chicken, so be sure to check it to make sure it is thoroughly cooked. The internal temperature should be 165ºF.

Notes

  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. This recipe is a perfect meal prep for busy weeknights.

  • Want more flavor in your chicken? Try adding garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, thyme or Italian seasoning to the breading.
  • Make a creamy garlic parmesan chicken by drizzling 1/4 cup of heavy cream over the sauce when you uncover the chicken and continue baking. Stir the sauce slightly before returning to the oven. It makes a creamy garlic chicken you'll fall in love with!
