Ingredients
Oreo Donuts
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup sour cream
- 3 tbsp melted unsalted butter
- ½ cup flour all purpose or gluten free
- 2 tbsp black cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp Oreo crumbs regular or gluten free
- ⅓ cup light brown sugar tightly packed
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- pinch sea salt optional
Frosting
- 1 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tbsp milk
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- First, preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Generously spray a donut pan with nonstick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, add egg, vanilla extract, sour cream and melted butter. Use electric hand mixer to beat together.
- Then, add in flour, black cocoa powder, Oreo crumbs, light brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and sea salt. Beat until a thick batter is formed.
- Add batter to a piping bag or Ziplock bag. If using a Ziplock bag, gently snip off one corner.
- Pipe batter into the greased donut pan. Fill cavities only halfway.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
- Remove donuts from oven. Once donuts have cooled completely, make frosting.
- For the frosting, add melted butter, milk and powdered sugar to a small mixing bowl. Stir to combine.
- Spread frosting over tops of cooled donuts. Garnish with chopped Oreos if desired.
Cup of Yum
Notes
- This recipe can be made with gluten free ingredients. Use gluten free 1 to 1 baking flour and gluten free Oreos.
- Black cocoa powder has a more intense chocolate flavor. It tastes like Oreos. If needed, replace with regular cocoa powder.
- For the Oreo crumbs, add 2 Oreos to a Ziplock bag. Crush with rolling pin or coffee mug. Then measure.
- This donut batter will be very thick.
- Only fill donut pan cavities halfway full.
- Bake until toothpick inserted comes out with only moist crumbs.
- Only frost cooled donuts. Adding frosting to warm donuts will result in melted frosting.
- Store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
