Ginger Turmeric Root Tea
This Ginger Turmeric Root Tea blends fresh turmeric and ginger roots simmered with black pepper and optional cinnamon, tulsi, and lemon slices. Its earthy, warm, and slightly spicy flavor highlights the fresh roots and the subtle heat from black pepper. The tea can be served hot or chilled over ice for a refreshing alternative.
Ingredients
- 2.5 cups water
- 1 inch turmeric root peeled and thinly sliced, fresh
- 1/2 to 3/4 inch ginger root thinly slices sliced
- black pepper freshly ground, very good dash
- maple syrup or sugar to taste
Optional add ins:
- cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon
- lices of fresh lemon
- tulsi Indian Holy Basil, a few leaves
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a simmering boil over medium low heat. Add in the optional ingredients if using. Continue to simmer for 6 to 8 minutes. Add in sweet if needed. Strain and serve. Add some lemon slices if needed.
- Or chill and serve over ice cubes as iced tea.
Notes
- Use fresh turmeric and ginger roots peeled and thinly sliced for best flavor extraction.
- Adjust the amount of black pepper to control the spicy heat in the tea.
