Ingredients

  • 2 ounces tequila or mezcal, silver
  • 1 ½ ounces grapefruit juice freshly squeezed
  • ½ ounce lime juice freshly squeezed
  • ½ ounce agave nectar or simple syrup
  • Pinch salt
  • sparkling water or club soda
  • grapefruit for garnish, wedges

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, agave nectar, and a pinch of salt. Shake well for 10 to 15 seconds, then set aside.
  2. Add a few ice cubes to a sugar- or salt-rimmed highball glass, then pour the contents of the shaker through the strainer into the glass.
  3. Top with sparkling water, stir, and garnish with a thin wedge of grapefruit.

Notes

  • Sweetness can be adjusted by adding more agave nectar or simple syrup.
  • Easily double or triple the recipe for serving a larger group.
