Ingredients

  • 1 lb 93% lean ground turkey
  • 1 small yellow onion or white onion shredded
  • 1 cup baby spinach finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 - 3 large garlic cloves minced
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ⅓ cup crumbled feta
  • 4 hamburger buns regular, whole wheat, or gluten-free (lettuce buns for a low-carb version)
  • Toppings: try avocado red onion, lettuce, tomato, and/or tzatziki

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a large mixing bowl, add ground turkey. Then, shred the yellow onion on top of the turkey using a box grater. Add in chopped spinach, dijon mustard, garlic cloves, cumin, salt, pepper, and feta.
  2. Gently mix with your hands and divide the mixture into 4 burger patties, about ½ to 1 inch thick.
Air Fryer:
    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 360°F and lightly grease it with non-stick spray.
  2. Place each burger into the preheated air fryer basket, ensuring even spacing and avoiding overlap. If needed, do two batches.
  3. Air fry for a total of 10 – 13 minutes, flipping the burgers halfway through. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
Stove:
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet to medium with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  2. Add burgers to the skillet and cook for 6 – 7 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook for an additional 6 – 7 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
Grill:
  1. Clean and heat the grill to medium-high (375°F to 400°F).
  2. Grease the grill by using spray or dipped paper towels in oil.
  3. Place turkey burgers on the heated grill, cover with the lid, and cook for 5 minutes until grill marks appear. Flip and cook for another 5 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
Assmble:
  1. Choose your preferred bun or go bun-free and add to a salad for a keto option. Assemble burgers with tzatziki, red onion, avocado, tomato, lettuce, or toppings of your choice.
  2. Enjoy your Greek Turkey Burgers!

Notes

  • Choose Lean Ground Turkey: Opt for 93% lean ground turkey to balance juiciness and healthiness. 99% lean can be dry if the recipe doesn’t call for eggs or breadcrumbs.
  • Oven Option: Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake the turkey burgers on a parchment-lined baking sheet for about 20 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. This method is convenient for cooking multiple burgers simultaneously.
  • On a Salad: A great way to add protein to your salads. Try this Greek pasta salad and this Greek spinach salad.
  • Yellow Onion: You can use sweet onion or white onion instead.
  • Fresh Garlic: Try 1 teaspoon of garlic powder or use pre-minced, frozen, or bagged garlic.
  • Spinach: Defrost frozen spinach, dry it well, and chop it up. Or leave it off.
  • Storing: Store cooked turkey burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.
  • Freezing: You can freeze cooked turkey burgers for future use. Ensure they are fully cooled, wrap them individually in plastic wrap or foil, and store them in an airtight container or freezer bag. Label with the date and use within 2-3 months for the best quality.
  • Reheating: To reheat, either use a microwave for a quick option. You can also use the air fryer or oven to reheat gradually. Start with 6 minutes at 300°F and check warmness before adding more time.
