Grilled Cheese Roll Ups

Grilled Cheese Roll Ups feature slices of white bread flattened and wrapped around Wisconsin cheddar cheese, then pan-fried in butter until all sides are golden brown and the cheese melts inside. This method creates a crispy exterior and gooey cheese interior in a handheld form. The recipe is flexible, allowing substitutions of bread and cheese types to adjust flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  • 8 lices white bread crusts trimmed
  • 8 lices cheddar cheese Wisconsin origin
  • ¼ cup butter unsalted

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Using a rolling pin, flatten bread squares to 1/4-inch thickness.
  2. Place cheese slice on top of each slice of bread, rolling up tightly.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Working in batches, add roll ups to the skillet, cooking until all sides are golden brown and the cheese has melted, about 3-4 minutes, adding more butter as needed.
  4. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Whole wheat or whole grain bread can be substituted for white bread to add fiber and a nuttier taste.
  • Various cheeses such as Monterey Jack, pepper jack, Swiss, provolone, or mozzarella can replace cheddar to tailor flavor and meltiness.
