Grilled Hawaiian Teriyaki Burger

This recipe creates juicy grilled beef burgers infused with Hawaiian-inspired teriyaki flavors. Ground beef patties are mixed with grated carrot, scallions, and a touch of sriracha, then grilled alongside fresh pineapple slices. A homemade teriyaki sauce made from pineapple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, and ginger thickens into a glaze, complementing the savory patties. Whole wheat buns and lettuce complete the sandwiches.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef 93% lean
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup carrot grated
  • 1/4 cup water cold
  • 1/2 cup scallions chopped
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tsp ginger fresh grated
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce reduced sodium
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Sriracha sauce (or more if you like it spicy)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger very fine, fresh grated
  • 8 lices pineapple fresh
  • 1 garlic minced, small clove
  • 8 Whole Wheat Bun I used Martin's, 100 calorie
  • 8 lettuce leaves

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Gently combine the ground beef with grated carrots, scallions, ginger, soy sauce and sriracha sauce.
  2. Combine the cornstarch in cold water and dissolve. Set aside.
  3. Form into 8 equal sized patties, try not to overwork the meat so it doesn't get tough.
  4. Mix soy sauce, pineapple juice, brown sugar, grated ginger and garlic in small saucepan over medium-low heat; bring to a boil and simmer until sauce reduces, about 15 to 18 minutes.
  5. Add cornstarch water mixture and simmer until thick, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  6. Heat the grill. When hot clean the grates and spray with oil.
  7. Place the patties on the grill and cook on high heat for about 5 to 7 minutes on each side, or until burgers are cooked to your liking.
  8. While the burgers are cooking, grill the pineapple slices for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
  9. To serve, place a piece of lettuce on the bottom of each burger bun. Top with the cooked burger and 1 tbsp of teriyaki sauce, then top with grilled pineapple.
