Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef lean
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • cooked white rice for serving
  • toasted sesame seeds optional
  • crushed red pepper flakes optional

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, and cornstarch until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add diced onion, minced garlic, and ginger. Sauté until onions are translucent, about 3 minutes.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Add broccoli and the prepared sauce. Stir well to combine. Simmer until the broccoli is tender and the sauce has thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Serve warm with white rice. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and crushed red pepper flakes.
