Ground Beef Taco Recipe

This ground beef taco recipe makes a Mexican meal that everyone loves. Make this taco meat recipe for a small group or to feed a crowd!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium white onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • salt
  • 3 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 lb lean ground beef 90/10
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 8 small (6-inch round) corn tortillas
Garnish
  • Pico de Gallo
  • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce shredded
  • pickled red onions
  • shredded cheese Cojita, cheddar, or cheese of choice

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium high heat add the oil. When hot, add onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic and stir, cook 30 seconds more. Season with pinch of kosher salt.
  2. Stir in the taco seasoning, brown sugar and tomato paste, simmer on low for 2 minutes. Add the ground beef and water. Break up the meat with the spoon. Stir and reduce for 10 minutes.
  3. Over a hot flame on the stovetop or on a grill, char the fresh, soft corn tortillas on both sides.
  4. Add the apple cider vinegar to the beef filling and season to taste.
  5. Fill each taco shell with beef filling, cheese (optional), pico de gallo, lettuce and pickled onions.
