Ingredients

  • 4 oz. walnut kernels , shelled
  • 3 oz. shelled and blanched pistachios
  • 3 oz. senjed (Persian olives / Russian olives)
  • 4 oz. golden raisins
  • 3 oz. black raisins
  • 3 oz. dried sweet cherries
  • 4 oz. dried apricots
  • 4 oz. slivered almonds
  • 1 tablespoon rose water or a few drops of vanilla extract , optional
  • 6 cups filtered or spring water , lukewarm

Instructions

  1. Rinse the raisins, the apricots and the cherries in cold water.
  2. Mix all the dried fruits in a large bowl, mix them and pour over the rose water and the water.
  3. Cover the mixture and let sit in the fridge for 2 days, stirring 1-2 times a day. The fruit should have absorbed most of the water.
  4. Serve the haft mewa as is with the syrup formed at the bottom of the bowl.

  1. In the absence of walnuts, shelled pistachios and shelled slivered almonds, follow this method to shell them:
  2. In a large saucepan, bring 1 quart (1 liter) of water to a boil. Remove from the heat and add the walnuts and pistachios. Leave to stand for 15 minutes, then add the almonds. Let stand again for about 15 minutes or until the water is lukewarm.
  3. Peel the walnuts, pistachios and almonds by rubbing them between the two hands then sliver the almonds.
