Hamburger Steaks and Gravy

Ingredients
Steak
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 small onion finely minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- salt and pepper
Gravy
- 1 medium onion sliced
- 1 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cups beef stock
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until fully combined.
- Form the mix into 4 individual patties. Season each side with salt and pepper.
- Place them in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
- Add the olive oil and butter to a skillet over medium high heat.
- Remove the patties from the refrigerator and add them to the skillet.
- Sear the patties for 3 minutes on each side.
- Remove them from the skillet and set them aside.
- Turn the heat down to medium and begin making the gravy.
- Add the butter to the skillet. Once it's melted, add in the onions.
- Cook, stirring occasionally until the onions have softened.
- Add in the beef stock, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Stir until everything is combined. Be sure to scrape all the little bits from the bottom.
- In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with the cold water to make a slurry.
- Add the slurry to the gravy, whisking to combine.
- Add the steaks back to the skillet and cover them with the gravy.
- Turn the heat down to a low simmer and cover it with a lid.
- Let them finish cooking through, about 10-12 minutes.
- Once they're done, serve over mashed potatoes and enjoy!

- Don't leave the steak in the skillet to sear for too long. You don't want to overcook them.
