Hawaiian Meatballs

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground turkey
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup crushed pineapple
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • optional: chopped cilantro, sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and milk. Mix until well combined. Gently roll into 1 1/2 inch balls, making sure to avoid packing the meat too tightly, and place on the baking sheet.
  3. Bake meatballs for 20 minutes or until browned and cooked through.
  4. In a medium saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, water, crushed pineapple, and vinegar. Bring to a boil.
  5. Whisk together cornstarch and cold water until the cornstarch is dissolved. Pour into boiling sauce and stir until thickened. Reduce to a simmer.
  6. Serve meatballs over rice and top with sauce. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and sesame seeds, if desired.
