Homemade Blueberry Sauce

Homemade blueberry sauce is flavorful and bursting with juicy blueberries. It requires just four ingredients and can be made in 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups blueberries fresh or frozen
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 6 tablespoons cold water
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract

  1. Combine blueberries, water, and sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently, but be careful not to crush the berries; bring to a low boil.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with cold water until combined.
  3. Slowly stir the cornstarch slurry into the blueberries, careful not to crush them. Simmer until the homemade blueberry sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon, about 10 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and gently stir in vanilla.
  5. Let the sauce cool; it will thicken more. Use it as a topping for various desserts.
