Homemade Chai Concentrate

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of water
  • ⅔ cup of granulated sugar or more/less, to taste
  • 20 cardamom pods, cracked
  • 15 cloves
  • 3 cinnamon sticks, broken
  • ½ teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 8 black tea bags

Instructions

  1. Combine the water, sugar, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger in a large saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Add tea bags and turn off the heat. Allow to steep for 5 minutes.
  4. Strain mixture. To serve, combine one part concentrate with one part non-dairy milk. Serve hot or chilled.
  5. Store concentrate in the fridge. It will keep for about one week.

Notes

  • Enjoy your homemade chia tea as an iced or hot beverage.
  • Combine the chai concentrate with your favorite non-dairy milk for a quick homemade chai.
  • Make sure you allow it to simmer for the full amount of time to get the maximum flavor from the spices.
