Homemade Melba Toast
Homemade Melba Toast offers crisp, thin toasted bread triangles made from white bread. The bread slices are first lightly toasted, then the crusts removed and cut into thin slices before a final crisping under the broiler. This process yields light, crunchy toast pieces ideal for appetizers or accompanying toppings.
Ingredients
- 10 lices white bread
Instructions
- Heat the broiler/grill to medium.
- Place the slices of bread onto a baking sheet and toast them lightly on both sides.
- Cut the crusts off each slice of toast.
- Using a non-serrated knife, carefully slice through the middle of each slice (see picture above) to give you 2 thin slices.
- Cut each thin slice in half to create 2 triangles.
- Put the triangles, untoasted-side up, onto a baking sheet and place them back under the broiler/grill to crisp. This will take about 2 minutes. Watch them carefully, as the toast will burn easily.
