Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground Italian sausage or ground beef
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 14.5 ounce canned chopped tomatoes
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 ounces lasagna noodles or other type of pasta
  • 8 ounces ricotta cheese

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Brown the meat in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the onion and garlic, and cook over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink and the onions are translucent.
  3. Add the tomato sauce, chopped tomatoes, water, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Break the lasagna noodles into pieces, add them to the skillet, and stir to combine.
  5. Cook for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pasta is done. If the liquid cooks out, you may need to add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water.
  6. Place dollops of ricotta cheese on top. Stir in the cheese if desired. You can top with additional cheese.

Notes

  • For a more authentic lasagna flavor, layer the additions of ricotta. After the pasta is halfway cooked, add half the ricotta in dollops and stir gently. Then top with remaining ricotta before covering. This creates pockets of cheese throughout the dish rather than just on top. If your sauce becomes too thick before the pasta is fully cooked, add water in small increments to reach desired consistency.
