Homemade White Gravy
Homemade White Gravy is made from butter, all-purpose flour, milk or cream, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. The gravy is prepared by making a roux with butter and flour, then whisking in milk until thickened into a smooth, savory sauce that pairs well with biscuits and meats.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cup whole milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
Instructions
- Melt the butter in an iron skillet over medium heat.
- When the butter has melted completely, add the flour.
- Cook the flour and butter for approximately 1 minute, or until it becomes fragrant like pie dough.
- Add milk or heavy cream, and whisk until the gravy thickens.
- Season with salt and black pepper.
