Homemade White Gravy

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in an iron skillet over medium heat.
  2. When the butter has melted completely, add the flour.
  3. Cook the flour and butter for approximately 1 minute, or until it becomes fragrant like pie dough.
  4. Add milk or heavy cream, and whisk until the gravy thickens.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper.
