Honey Chicken

Honey Chicken features chicken breast tenders coated in a light batter made from all-purpose flour, corn starch, baking powder, and sesame oil, then fried until golden brown. The chicken is finished by cooking briefly in a sweet and tangy sauce composed of ketchup, sugar, honey, soy sauce, and water. This creates a flavorful dish with a crispy exterior and a sticky, glossy coating, suitable for serving hot as a main.

Ingredients

  • chicken breast tenders sliced, 6-7 pieces
For Batter:
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
For Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup tomato ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 3 Tbsp honey
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Prepare your chicken and pat dry.
  2. Set to the side.
  3. In a small bowl add all of the sauce ingredients, mix to combine.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Add the batter ingredients in a bowl, whisk to combine.
  6. Add the water slowly and make it into a semi thick batter.
  7. Dip each chicken in batter and then place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  8. Place the oil in the Instant Pot and set to saute.
  9. Place the chicken in the oil once bubbling hot.
  10. Chicken has to be in a single layer.
  11. Turn the chicken over to evenly cook.
  12. Cook chicken until golden brown.
  13. Remove the chicken and place onto a paper towel covered plate, and set aside.
  14. Wipe clean the Instant Pot insert.
  15. Add sauce into the Instant pot and add the chicken.
  16. Toss to combine.
  17. Close the lid and seal the valve.
  18. Set to manual for 4 minutes.
  19. Once the timer sounds open the valve. .
  20. Serve hot.
