Honey Garlic Meatballs

Honey Garlic Meatballs are made from a tender mixture of ground beef, soaked bread, onions, garlic, and seasonings, baked until cooked through. They’re coated with a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce combining fresh garlic, ketchup, honey, soy sauce, and sesame oil, cooked briefly in a skillet. The meatballs become flavorful with a balance of richness, sweetness, and garlic character, suitable as a main dish or appetizer.

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a 9x13 baking pan with vegetable oil spray.
  2. In the bowl of your stand mixer add the milk to the slices of bread.
  3. Melt the butter in a pan and add the minced yellow onions.
  4. Cook them on medium-low until translucent but not browned.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool.
  6. In your bowl with the milk-soaked bread add the rest of the meatball ingredients including the cooked onions.
  7. Mix it on low until the bread is broken apart and the meat is combined with the ingredients (using the stand mixer and not your hands helps keep the mixture cold and tender).
  8. Using a meatballer/ice cream scoop or your hands, scoop them into balls about the size of a ping pong ball and place on the baking sheet.
  9. Cook, uncovered, for 20-22 minutes.
  10. While meatballs are cooking add vegetable oil and garlic to a large skillet on medium heat.
  11. Cook for 1 minute, stirring often.
  12. Whisk in sesame oil, ketchup, honey, and soy sauce.
  13. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  14. Add cooked meatballs to skillet, stir to combine.
  15. Cook for 5-6 minutes until well glazed.
