Ingredients

Glaze:
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • ½ teaspoon sesame seeds
Other Ingredients:
  • 2 cod filets (5-6 oz each)
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, sliced diagonally

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Combine all glaze ingredients (soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and sesame seeds) in a small bowl.
  2. Place the cod filets in a glass dish. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  3. Brush 1 tablespoon of the glaze over the cod filets. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes - 2 hours. Reserve the remaining glaze for cooking.
  4. Place the oven rack on the second rungs from the top and preheat the broiler to low. Line a small baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper.
  5. Place the cod filets on the sheet pan and brush with glaze.
  6. Broil on low for 12-14 minutes, brushing with glaze every 2-3 minutes, or until you run out of glaze. You can continue brushing the filets with the glaze on the pan as well.
  7. Turn the broiler on to high and broil for 4-5 more minutes, or until the outside is browned and the internal temperature reaches 135-140°F.
  8. Transfer the filets to a serving plate. Garnish with green onions. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Cod can be replaced with other white-fleshed fish like halibut, rockfish (or sea bass), black cod, lingcod, haddock, etc.
  • For a citrusy twist on this recipe, you can replace the rice vinegar with lime juice.
  • Honey adds a distinct flavor to the glaze, but you can use brown sugar or maple syrup instead.
  • Green onions are an optional garnish for the fish. You can also add fresh cilantro for an extra pop of flavor and color.
  • This recipe uses an oven with a broiler. The fish can also be cooked in a skillet on the stove or on a plank on the grill.
  • To add some extra flavor, you can double the glaze recipe and reduce it in a small saucepan to serve alongside the fish.
