Hong Kong Style Lo Mein

Lo mein is a classic Cantonese noodle dish. This authentic Hong Kong style lo mein recipe is simple and delicious. Wanna know how to make authentic Chinese lo mein?

Ingredients

  • 2 egg noodles Wide one, fresh, Chinese
  • 1 head lettuce (Small)
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • ½ tablespoon vegetable oil
Sauce:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • ½ tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 teaspoons corn starch

Instructions

  1. Mince 6 cloves of garlic. 
  2. Boil some water in a pot.
  3. When the water is boiling, add 2 fresh Chinese egg noodles (You can cook more noodles if needed). Use chopsticks to loosen up the noodles and let it cook for a couple minutes.
  4. Rinse and drain the noodles in the cold water.
  5. In a container, put 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, ½ tablespoon of sesame oil and 3 teaspoons of cornstarch. Mix it well. 
  6. Pour ½ tablespoon of vegetable oil into the non stick pan. Put the minced garlic, stir fry the garlic a little bit. 
  7. After that, pour the sauce mixture into the nonstick pan and cook until it thickens. (Keep stirring the sauce mixture before pouring into the pan.)
  8. Boil the water again and put 1 small head of lettuce. Don’t overcook the lettuce, just immerse the lettuce into the boiling water and take it out.
  9. Next, put the cooked noodles and lettuce on the plate.
  10. Pour some sauce over the noodles. Mix it up the noodles and ready to eat.

Notes

  • Boil some water in a pot. When the water is boiling, put the fresh Chinese egg noodles. Use chopsticks to loosen up the noodles and cook it for a couple minutes until noodles are floating on top. 
  • Drain the noodles and rinse with cold water.
  • Use the boiled noodles water to cook the lettuce or vegetables. 
  • Don’t overcook the lettuce. Pretty much just put the lettuce in the boiling water, immerse them and take it out.
  • Cook the oyster sauce in the pan and when is done, pour some sauce over the noodles and mix with the noodles.
