Hot Dog Casserole with Tater Tots
Hot Dog Casserole with Tater Tots layers sliced hot dogs, chili, and cheese beneath a crispy topping of baked frozen tater tots. The chili adds warmth and seasoning, while the multiple cheese layers help keep the tater tots crisp during baking. This hearty casserole combines savory and slightly spicy flavors with contrasting textures of tender hot dogs and crunchy tots.
Ingredients
- 1 pkg hot dogs sliced as thick or thin as you like
- 4 cups chili canned or homemade
- 7-8 cups tater tots frozen
- 2 cups cheese shredded, more or less to taste
- cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.
- Grab a 13x9 inch pan or something similar.
- Place sliced hot dogs all over the bottom of the pan.
- Cover the hot dogs with chili and then sprinkle a layer of cheese. We find this helps the tater tots not get soggy.
- Next place your frozen tater tots in rows and columns. Put as many frozen tater tots as you can without overlapping.
- Add remaining cheese on top.
- Bake for 30 minutes. Enjoy!
Notes
- Select a high-quality chili, either canned or homemade, to enhance flavor.
- Bake at the specified temperature and time to achieve crisp tater tots and melted cheese.
- Adding cheese beneath the tater tots helps prevent sogginess and enhances texture.
- Let the casserole rest for about 10 minutes before serving to set ingredients and ease portioning.
- Shredding your own cheese rather than using pre-shredded blocks improves melting and texture.
