Hot Toddy Recipe (Traditional Scottish Recipe)
The Hot Toddy is a traditional Scottish warm drink made by mixing good-quality whisky with honey or brown sugar and hot water. The combination produces a soothing beverage with a balance of sweetness and whisky warmth. Preparation involves dissolving the sweetener in boiling water added to the whisky, served hot for sipping.
Ingredients
- 1 hot whisky (good quality)
- 1 Tbsp honey (or 1-2 tsp of brown sugar)
- 1 cup water (or fill your glass or cup as desired)
Instructions
- Boil the water.
- Put the whisky into the glass.
- Add the honey or brown sugar.
- Pour in some of the boiled water and stir to melt the sweetener.
- Add more water as desired. Drink hot.
Notes
- Use a crystal glass and a silver spoon placed inside while pouring hot water to prevent the glass from cracking.
- Good quality Scotch whisky improves the flavor.
- Optional additions like lemon juice, cinnamon sticks, or cloves can be added to customize the drink.
- Alternate spirits such as rum or brandy can be used in place of whisky.
