Notes

  • Pour off the water from the can of beans, it doesn’t taste that good.
  • This recipe is for 2 people, if you want to serve more people, you will have to increase the recipe by as many people as you need to serve.  Don’t forget to increase the spices as well.
  • PRO TIP:  If you don't have ALL of the spices, that is ok, use what you DO have.  The main idea is to get a little oil (bacon grease) smoked flavor (bacon), sweetness (sugar), salt, pepper, heat (cayenne) and acid (vinegar) into the recipe.  Some substitutions that you could make include:
  • For vinegar:  white vinegar, lemon juice.
  • Bacon: 1 tbs vegetable oil or any other oil, 1 tbs butter PLUS ¼ teaspoon liquid smoke.
  • Sugar:  same amount of honey, maple syrup, raw sugar, brown sugar.
  • Pour off the water from the can of beans, it doesn’t taste that good.
