How to make Turmeric Tea with fresh turmeric root

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon turmeric root or ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, sliced, fresh
  • 2 tablespoon ginger root or ½ teaspoon ginger powder, sliced, fresh
  • 1 tablespoon lemon peel fresh
  • black pepper or ¼ teaspoon black pepper powder, few, whole
  • cassia cinnamon or ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder, few sticks
  • 2 cups water filtered
  • lemon juice as needed
  • honey as needed

Instructions

  1. Crush the ginger root slices, black pepper, and cinnamon separately or together. Skip this step if using ground or dried versions.
  2. Heat water in a pot or saucepan. Add turmeric slices, along with lemon peels, crushed ginger, and crushed black pepper and cinnamon.
  3. Cover the lid and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Once done, strain the tea through a fine sieve into cups.
  5. Add lemon juice and honey as needed and mix well.

Notes

  • Fresh turmeric and ginger add a vibrant flavor. However, ground or dried versions could be used as well.
  • A little fat like coconut oil, almond oil or even butter could be added to the drink.
  • Storage: It can be easily stored for 2-3 days in the refrigerator. Keep the strained tea in an airtight jar. Just before serving, heat it up, mix lemon juice and honey.
