Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. matcha powder ceremonial grade, organic
  • 5 oz. water (about 2/3 cup)

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Measure 1 teaspoon matcha powder in a tea bowl.*
  2. Heat 5 oz. water (about 2/3 cup) just under boiling, around 160°F (71°C).
  3. Carefully pour hot water in the bowl with matcha powder.
  4. Using a bamboo whisk (holding it vertically from the top) stir a few times to make sure all the matcha clumps are off the bottom and side of the bowl.
  5. Then whisk very briskly back and forth in a straight line for about 20-30 seconds. (Take care not to scrape the bottom of the bowl with the delicate bamboo prongs.)
  6. Finish by whisking in a slower zig-zag pattern to calm the waves and create delicate “micro foam”.
  7. Rinse your whisk, and set it upright on the counter for next time (or on a whisk holder if you have one).

Notes

  • *Bowl: Since you’ll whisk vigorously to achieve the froth, it’s best to use a wide and deep enough bowl. (If you don’t have a matcha bowl, a soup bowl works great.)
  • Matcha quality: Be sure to use a good quality organic matcha powder with bright green color.
