Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in cold water for 20 minutes. Drain the rice.
  2. Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add drained rice to the pan, stirring gently for 2 minutes to coat with oil and cumin. Then, add 2 cups water, turmeric powder, and salt to taste. Stir and bring to a boil over high heat.
  4. Once boiling, lower the heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
  5. Remove the pan from heat and let sit for a few minutes. Fluff rice with a fork and serve warm.
