Ingredients

  • 1 pound dry pinto beans
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the pinto beans in a mesh strainer, removing any debris or stones.
  2. Add the rinsed beans, water, diced onion, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, and black pepper to the Instant Pot. Stir to combine.
  3. Secure the lid on the Instant Pot, set the valve to 'Sealing', and cook on high pressure for 45 minutes.
  4. After cooking, allow the pressure to release naturally for 20 minutes, then manually release any remaining pressure.
  5. Open the lid, stir the beans, and season with salt to taste. Serve hot.
