Instant Pot Shredded Chicken

Instant Pot Shredded Chicken uses boneless skinless chicken breasts cooked in a seasoned liquid of broth or juice and spices within an electric pressure cooker. The chicken is cooked until tender and then shredded, ideal for quick preparation without hands-on fuss. The combination of Italian seasoning, garlic, paprika, and optional red pepper flakes gives a mildly spiced, savory flavor. The method allows for fresh or frozen chicken, making it convenient and versatile for many dishes.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lbs chicken breast fresh or frozen, boneless and skinless
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth water or pineapple juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter optional, unsalted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced

  1. If using frozen chicken, before you add the chicken to the Instant Pot make sure its not stuck together.
  2. Add chicken breasts to the Instant Pot. It is okay if the breasts overlap.
  3. Add the liquid of choice and all the other ingredients. Add the butter on top.
  4. Place the lid and lock it, make sure to point the valve to sealing.
  5. Press manual and select 15 minutes for fresh/thawed chicken breasts or 25 minutes, for frozen chicken breasts. It will take the pot about 10 minutes to come to pressure.
  6. CHECK THE POST FOR TIPS ON COOKING TIME BASED ON CHICKEN BREAST SIZE.
  7. Once the cooking is done and the Instant Pot beeps, do a 10-15 minute Natural Pressure Release, after that open the valve to release the remaining pressure.
  8. Check the internal temperature of the chicken, it should be at least 165 degrees F.
  9. You can chop it and serve it as it is, or transfer the chicken to a large bowl and shred it. Use the cooking liquid to add it to the shredded chicken to make it moist and flavorful.
  10. Store the chicken in an airtight container, add the cooking liquid to it to keep it moist.
