Ingredients

  • 2 oranges
  • 2 apples
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 cups grapes seedless
  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 3 kiwis
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar optional
  • fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Begin by preparing the fruits. Peel the oranges and separate them into segments. Core the apples and cut them into small cubes. Peel the bananas and slice them into rounds. Remove the stems from the grapes. Hull the strawberries and cut them into halves or quarters, depending on their size. Peel the kiwis and cut them into bite-sized chunks.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the prepared fruits, including the kiwi. Toss gently to mix them.
  3. Squeeze the lemon juice over the fruit salad. If desired, sprinkle the granulated sugar on top to enhance the sweetness. Toss again to ensure the fruit is evenly coated.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the salad to a lidded container. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together and the salad to chill.
  5. Before serving, give the fruit salad a gentle stir. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
  6. Serve the Macedonia di Frutta chilled as a refreshing dessert or a light snack. It's perfect for warm summer days or as a healthy addition to any meal.

Notes

  • Add other fruits that are in season, such as stonefruit, berries, and watermelon.
  • How to Store Leftover Fruit Salad
  • Refrigerate: Fruit salads should always be stored in the refrigerator to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage. The cold temperature helps preserve the quality of the fruits and extends their shelf life.
  • Airtight Container: Transfer the fruit salad to an airtight container with a lid. This will help maintain the salad's texture, prevent it from absorbing odors from the refrigerator, and protect it from contamination.
  • Separate Juice: If your fruit salad has accumulated some juice at the bottom of the container, try to separate the juice from the fruit.
