Ketchup with Onion

This ketchup with onions is zingy, sweet, and full of caramelized onions. Onion ketchup makes a great condiment or addition to any sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 white onion diced
  • 6 tablespoon butter
  • 3 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup ketchup

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Get out and measure your ingredients.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat.
  3. Add butter and melt it, stirring often. Add onions and sprinkle brown sugar over top.
  4. Saute for 15 minutes. Stir regularly.
  5. Reduce heat to low and stir in white vinegar
  6. and ketchup.
  7. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Check for acceptable consistency. If you prefer thicker ketchup simply simmer longer.
  9. Remove from heat and allow to cool a bit before using.
  10. Serve.

  • This recipe makes 1 ½ cups of onion ketchup
