Kinderpunsch (German Christmas Punch)

This Kinderpunsch recipe is a hot Christmas punch made with fruit juices, tea and warm spices. Kinder Punch is a holiday tradition in Germany, and is the perfect addition to any winter gathering.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups apple cider or apple juice
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 3 cups cherry juice
  • 3 cups water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 4 hibiscus or berry tea bags
  • garnishes such as more whole spices, orange slices and cranberries optional

Instructions

  1. Place the apple cider, orange juice, cherry juice, water, sugar, star anise, cinnamon sticks and cloves in a large pot over medium heat. Stir to combine.
  2. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat. Add the tea bags.
  4. Let the tea bags steep for 10 minutes, then discard the tea bags.
  5. Serve, with additional garnishes if desired.

Notes

  • If you’re serving a crowd and need to keep the punch warm, you can let it sit on the stove on the lowest heat setting, or transfer it to a crock pot and use the keep warm option. You can also put it in a thermos for travel purposes.
