Limonana - Frozen Mint Lemonade
Limonana is a refreshing frozen mint lemonade made by blending fresh lemon juice, fresh mint leaves, ice, and a lightly sweetened sugar water syrup. The drink has a slushy texture created by thoroughly crushed ice, and the fresh mint adds a bright herbal note that balances the tartness of the lemon. Adjustable sweetness allows you to tailor the drink to your taste, making it an enjoyable choice on warm days or whenever you want a cooling beverage.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar or more to taste
- 1 3/4 cups water divided
- 1 cup lemon juice fresh
- 3 1/2 cups ice
- 1 cup mint leaf fresh
- 6 mint optional, sprigs for garnish
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and sugar. Heat over medium, whisking constantly, till the sugar dissolves. Let the water cool to room temperature.
- In a blender, combine the sugar water, fresh lemon juice, ice, fresh mint leaves and 3/4 cup of water.
- Pulse for a few seconds, then blend for 1 minute till the ice is thoroughly crushed and the drink takes on the texture of a thick slushy. Taste. This recipe produces a mildly sweet limonana, which is the way I like it. Some people like it sweeter. Add sugar to taste, if desired, and blend again.
- Pour into cold glasses and serve. Garnish with sprigs of mint, if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute sugar with stevia or other low glycemic sweeteners to reduce sugar content.
- Add sweetener after blending and adjust to taste for desired sweetness.
- Serve immediately for the best slushy texture and garnish with fresh mint sprigs.
