Maple Brown Sugar Granola Bars
These homemade Maple Brown Sugar Granola Bars are loaded with yumminess. Added cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg add extra special flavor to this healthy treat.
Ingredients
- 3 cups old fashioned oats Gluten free if desired
- 2 Tablespoons coconut oil grapeseed or canola would work too, melted
- 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 - 1½ cups raisins
- 1 - 1½ cups nuts
- 4 ounces dark chocolate optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F
- Place oats in a 9 x 13 pan.
- Toast them for 15 minutes until light brown, stirring once.
- Remove from oven and cool oats for about 10 minutes
- Line a 9 X 9 glass baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a small saucepan, heat the oil over medium high heat.
- Add the brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Simmer over medium heat, stirring until the brown sugar has dissolved.
- Place the toasted oats in a large bowl and pour the heated liquid ingredient over the oats.
- Stir to coat evenly.
- Fold in your fruit and nuts (and other add-ins)
- Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan and press until it is flatten. You can use the back of a spoon or another piece of parchment paper to flatten it out.
- Cover and let them sit in a cool dry place for at least an hour.
- Turn them out of the pan onto a cutting board.
- Slice down the middle and then cut each half into 6 bars.
- If desired, melt chocolate in a small saucepan over low heat (or in the microwave at 1 minute intervals) and drizzle the chocolate over the sliced bars with a spoon.
