Maple Walnut Apple Crisp

The classic apple crisp just got an upgrade with the rich caramel flavor of maple syrup and crunchy walnuts! It's the ultimate fall dessert.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and chopped apples
  • 3 Tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup maple sugar (or substitute brown sugar)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Toss the chopped apples with the maple syrup and place them in a 2 1/2 quart baker (see notes for alternatives.)
  3. Whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, and maple sugar in a mixing bowl. Add the butter, cut into pieces, and rub together with your fingers until there are no large chunks of butter remaining.
  4. Stir in the walnuts and oats, and sprinkle the crumbly mixture evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown and the apple juices are bubbling.
  6. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
  7. Leftovers can be stored on the counter for up to 3 days, and in the fridge for up to a week.
