  • ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 ½ sticks (12 tablespoons) of salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 egg + 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, patted dry and chopped
  • flaked salt, for topping

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.
  3. In the bowl of your electric mixer, beat the butter and sugars together until fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in the egg and egg yolk until combined. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  4. Beat in the dry ingredients until just combined. Beat in the chocolate chips and the cherries until mixed.
  5. Scoop or roll the dough into balls that are 1.5 to 2 tablespoons in size. Make sure they are about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cookies are just barely set. Sprinkle with flaked salt. Let cool completely before serving.
