McDonald's Fish Sandwich Copycat Recipe
This McDonald's Fish Sandwich Copycat Recipe recreates the classic fast-food favorite with crispy baked fish fillets coated in a seasoned batter and panko breadcrumbs. The sandwich is assembled on soft hamburger buns with melted cheddar cheese and a homemade tartar sauce featuring pickles, capers, and lemon juice. The breaded fish patties, baked until golden and cooked through, offer a crunchy exterior surrounding tender white fish. The tartar sauce adds tang and freshness, while the melted cheese and soft buns complete the familiar layering of textures and flavors.
Ingredients
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- 1 lb White fish fillets flat
- 4 hamburger buns or brioche buns, soft
- 4 lices cheddar cheese
- cooking spray
Batter:
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon pickle juice
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper ground
Tartar sauce:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons dill pickle very finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon parsley chopped, fresh
- 1 teaspoon capers drained and finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste
Instructions
Tartar sauce:
- Mix all the sauce ingredients in a bowl. Cover and set aside for 10 minutes in the fridge until ready to use.
Make the fish patties:
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Spread breadcrumbs on a baking tray. Spray with oil and bake for 3 - 5 minutes or until golden. Immediately transfer to a bowl.
- Clean the tray and spray it with oil.
- Cut fish fillets into equal square shapes that are just slightly larger than the buns.
- In a medium bowl stir together the Batter ingredients.
- Gently dip and coat the fish squares in batter and after that place them in the breadcrumbs and use your hands to delicately press them so all the sides are well covered.
- Transfer to the prepared tray and repeat with the remaining fish.
- Bake the fillets for 12 - 15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
- After removing from the oven, immediately top with cheese so residual heat will semi-melt it.
Assemble:
- Cut buns in half, and microwave for 20 seconds to warm through.
- Top with the fish and cheese, and a good dollop of tartare sauce. Serve.
