Mexican Avocado Crema [5 Minute]
Mexican Avocado Crema is a smooth, creamy sauce made by blending ripe avocados with onion, garlic, cilantro, lemon juice, and salt. Optionally, jalapeno adds a mild heat. The fast food processor method yields a versatile accompaniment for Mexican dishes, producing a fresh, tangy flavor with a silky texture that complements tacos, grilled vegetables, or chips.
Ingredients
- 4 small avocado or 2 large avocados, pitted and peeled
- ¼ cup of red or yellow onion
- 3 or 4 small garlic cloves; depending on garlic preference
- ½ to 1 tablespoon cilantro depending on your cilantro preference, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice or lime juice
- ½ to 1 teaspoon salt depending on your salt preference
- ½ jalapeno pepper optional, if you like spicy, small
Instructions
- In a food processor, add all of the ingredients and wiz on high until completely creamy. Where there are a range of measurements on the ingredients list, start with the small amounts, and add more based on your preferences.
Notes
- Select ripe, unblemished avocados and discard any brown spots to avoid bitterness.
- To adjust consistency, thin the crema by stirring in small amounts of plant-based milk or water until desired texture is reached.
- Letting the crema rest for at least 15 minutes before serving allows the flavors to meld harmoniously.
- Start with smaller amounts of garlic, cilantro, salt, and jalapeno, then adjust seasoning to taste after blending.
