Michelada Recipe

The Michelada Recipe combines Clamato juice with lime juice, Worcestershire, steak sauce, spices, and chili powders to create a savory, tangy cocktail mix. This mix is served over ice and topped with light Mexican beer in a glass rimmed with Tajin seasoning, garnished with lime wedges. It offers a balanced beverage with spicy, salty, and citrusy flavors typical of the classic Mexican Michelada.

Ingredients

  • 10 ounces clamato (see note 1)
  • 4 tablespoons lime juice from about 2 1/2 limes (1/4 cup)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (1 ounce)
  • 2 tablespoons steak sauce 1 ounce, A1 Original
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • tajin seasoning for rimming the glass (see note 2)
  • 4 lime for garnish, wedges
  • 24 ounces beer such as Corona or Modelo, for topping (see note 3, light Mexican

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a glass pitcher, add Clamato, lime juice, Worcestershire, A1, lemon juice, white vinegar, Tabasco, garlic powder, black pepper, chili powder, Old Bay, sugar, and salt.
  2. Stir to combine, about 30 seconds, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (this is a good time to chill your glassware, too).
  3. In a shallow dish as wide as your serving glass, add Tajin seasoning to 1/4-inch deep. Run a lime wedge around the top of each glass, then dip the top of the glass upside-down into the Tajin and turn to coat.
  4. Fill the glasses with ice. Add 1/2 cup Michelada mixture, then top with beer. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Notes

  • Use Clamato for an authentic savory base; substitute tomato juice or V8 if unavailable.
  • For the rim, Tajin seasoning provides spicy lime salt flavor; alternatively, use Margarita salt or chili powder.
  • Light Mexican beers like Corona, Modelo, or Tecate complement the Michelada mix well.
  • The recipe yields a batch for four Micheladas, ideal for sharing.
  • Serve in tall glasses such as highball, pint, mason jars, or mugs for a traditional presentation.
