Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups long-grain white rice e.g., jasmine or basmati
  • 2 1/4 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice in a fine-mesh strainer under cold running water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt.
  3. Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or plate and microwave on high power for 5 minutes.
  4. Carefully remove the bowl using oven mitts, stir the rice gently, and cover again.
  5. Reduce the microwave power to 50% and cook for an additional 15 minutes.
  6. Let the rice sit, covered, for 5 minutes to absorb any remaining moisture. Check the rice for doneness and cook 1-2 more minutes if needed.
  7. Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm.
