Middle Eastern Lettuce Wraps {Whole30}

These Lettuce Wraps have all the spices and flavors of the Middle East. They are also Whole30 compliant, gluten free and low-carb! Lamb is traditional, but ground beef or turkey would be a fine substitute!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 onions chopped, about 3 cups
  • 4 cloves garlic chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup toasted pine nuts
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over a medium heat.
  2. Add onions and cook 2-3 minutes. Add garlic, lamb, and spices. Continuing stirring, breaking up lamb, and cook another 5-7 minutes, or until lamb is nearly done.
  3. Drain excess fat, if any, add water and continue cooking until water is evaporated and lamb is cooked through, about 4 or 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in toasted pine nuts and check for seasoning.
  5. Serve in lettuce wraps with fresh mint leaves, chopped tomatoes, sliced onions and olives.

Notes

  • Ground turkey or beef can be used instead of lamb.
