Ninja Foodi Whole Chicken

Make flavourful whole roast chicken that is juicy inside, and crispy outside using your Ninja Foodi or favorite air fryer!

Ingredients

  • 2.7 lbs (1.234 kgs) whole chicken at room temperature, with the giblets and neck removed from the cavity
  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2-3 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon low-sodium chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 1½ tablespoon sweet or smoked ground paprika
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 3 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (or a few sprigs of fresh oregano, chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or a few sprigs of fresh thyme, chopped)
  • 2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (extracted from half a lemon)
  • ½ of a Lemon (to stuff the chicken)
  • 1 head of garlic roughly peeled and cut in the middle crosswise (to stuff the chicken)

  1. Clean out the chicken and pat it dry. Remove any feathers that may be present, as well as the giblets. Preheat your air fryer at 350°F (180°C) for 8 minutes.
  2. Prepare the seasoning; combine the butter, garlic cloves, olive oil, chicken or vegetable stock, salt, paprika, lemon pepper, lemon juice, and herbs.
  3. Coat the chicken with the prepared seasonings, on the outside, as well as under the skin. Stuff the chicken with the halved lemon pieces and the whole garlic head.
  4. Truss the chicken legs (tie the legs with a kitchen string). Place the chicken with the breast side down inside your air fryer basket and air fry for 30 minutes, then flip.
  5. Coat the chicken on the other side with any remaining seasoning, and air fry for a further 30 minutes. Use an internal read thermometer to check for doneness (it should read at least 165°F or 74°C- see notes).
  6. Let the chicken rest for at least 10-15 minutes before carving. Serve your roast chicken with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • The total time includes the preparation and resting time.
  • Use an instant-read meat thermometer to determine if your chicken is cooked. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh, being careful not to touch the bone. The chicken is done when the temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • If you have fresh herbs, use these as they add the best flavor and aroma!
