Ingredients

  • 4 ounces wide noodles dry
  • 4 Tablespoons poppy seed ground
  • 6 Tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter melted

Instructions

  1. Cook 4 ounces dry wide noodles according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Meanwhile, mix 6 Tablespoons powdered sugar and 4 Tablespoons ground poppy seeds in a bowl. Melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Strain the noodles thoroughly, ensuring most of the liquid is removed from their surface.
  4. Arrange the noodles in a bowl, sprinkle each portion with 5 tablespoons of the poppy seed and sugar mixture, and pour 1 ½ tablespoons of melted butter over them.
  5. Serve warm as a sweet main dish.

Notes

  • The basic recipe makes 2 servings.
  • Czech-style noodles with poppy seeds are a real sweet delight. In our family, we always add a generous amount of poppy seeds and sugar to the noodles, much more than is often suggested in recipes.
  • Cook the noodles until tender but firm; try not to overcook them. After cooking, strain the noodles without rinsing, as Nudle s mákem are best enjoyed warm.
