Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed)
  • ½ cup Nutella
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup icing sugar
  • 12 jube jubes (or colored chewy candy of choice)

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat the oven to 375˚F with racks in the upper and lower thirds. Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper. Or preheat Air Fryer to 375˚F.
  2. Unroll 1 thawed puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface. Evenly spread the Nutella over the pastry. Place the second piece of thawed pastry on top and gently press to stick them together and remove any air bubbles.
  3. Evenly make marks of where you will cut the dough into strips (you will be able to make about 12 cuts to make 12 trees). Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, carefully slice the dough into strips.
  4. Note: if you prefer to make stars out of the pastry for tree toppers you can save one strip of dough and use a small star cookie cutter to cut stars. This will leave you with 11 tree pastries. We prefer to use a candy as the tree topper, so we get 12 tree pastries.
  5. To shape the trees, carefully fold each dough strip on itself in a zig-zag motion starting with a large section to create the tree base. After each fold make them shorter and shorter to create a tree shape.
  6. Carefully insert a skewer in the center of the tree and place in on the prepared baking sheet. Leave a small amount of skewer sticking out of the top of the tree so you can attach the tree topper after baking.
  7. If you cut stars out for the tree toppers attach them to the top of the tree on the skewer.
  8. In a small bowl whisk the egg. Brush over the tops and sides of each tree.
  9. OVEN BAKING COOKING METHODBake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown (rotating and switching the pans halfway through cooking).AIR FRYER COOKING METHODWorking in batches depending on the size of your air fryer, cook the trees in a single layer (about 2-3 trees at a time) for 10-12 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Once the pastries are cooked and cooled you can attach a candy tree topper on top of the skewer (ex. Jube Jube, jelly bean, or any round soft candy of choice).
  11. Garnish the trees with icing sugar. Enjoy!
